ESL Teacher
Wuxi Xinwu Fangqian Experimental Primary School
Hello, my name is Claudia.
I was born in the city of Durban in South Africa, but I grew up in London. Growing up in different cultures has made me appreciate the diverse world we live in. I have an adventurous spirit and love to travel. I have always wanted to live and work in a completely different country to experience a new culture, so I decided to move to China.
My first experience of China was living in the city of Qingdao for two months during the summer, as a business intern. I really enjoyed my time in China, making new friends, learning to speak mandarin and trying a lot of new food, I fell in love with China and I knew that I had to come back.
I enjoy working with children, watching them learn and grow is really rewarding.
Previously, I taught arts and drama workshops to children with speech difficulties to improve their confidence. In addition, I worked with the Royal Chemistry Society to teach students imaging techniques for their exams before university.
I’ve also tutored primary school students in English and Maths. So, last year I returned to China and worked as an English teacher in a training school, I really enjoyed teaching English to children and knew that I wanted to continue to stay in China and teach.
I was fortunate to find JESIE, and to have the opportunity to keep teaching and living in China. The training I received from JESIE was invaluable. I enjoy teaching at my school, and I have wonderful colleagues that support me. I look forward to my next year living, working and travelling in China.
