ESL Teacher
Nanjing Lang Ya Road Primary School
My name is Joe and I am from the countryside in the south of England. I studied my degree in media and journalism in Brighton, England, before moving to Thailand to teach English in public schools and kindergartens.
One year later, I moved to Nanjing, China to continue my ESL teaching career in a training centre, I became the Academic Manager after one year and was the trainer and supervisor of all teachers in the language school, as well as assisting curriculum design alongside teaching my own classes.
I decided to leave the post after completing the year-long contract.
I chose to join JESIE for the following semester because of the more flexible office hours (prep time), as I am also working on a distance masters degree.
The larger class sizes can be more of a challenge, but there is a certain sense of pride from teaching in a non-profit setting, even for having a full teaching schedule, I find the workload manageable.
Outside of work I play and listen to as much music as possible. I enjoy playing the piano, guitar and occasionally the drums with my friends, and seeing what kind of music we can come up with. Outside of work and music, I like to travel, meet new people, talk about culture and travel, and complain about the weather.
