2016 JESIE Testimonial -XIV
I first found out about JESIE through someone I met while traveling in Asia at the beginning of 2016. At first I wasnt sure about doing such a big move. Moving away from Canada to China and making a change of career were two important decisions for me to make. I turned that idea in my head for 2 or 3 months before I decided to make that move. JESIE offered me an opportunity to teach in a primary school in China. I chose JESIE because they were really professional and available to me. I had a lot of questions and they were there to reassure me. They were really helpful in the process of me moving to China and even when I got to China. They were there to help new teachers with all the paper work for visa, to open a bank account, to get a cell phone with a monthly plan, etc.
I am working in Taibo experimental primary school in Wuxi, Jiangsu province China. I teach grade 4 and grade 5 and have approximately 600 students. I really like my students and the staff at my school. They are all very nice to me and helpful when I have a question or need help with something. Teaching is really different from my previous position. Back in Canada, I was an account executive in the commercial insurance business. It is two completely different worlds. As a teacher I work less hours, have a lot of holidays, have free accommodation, free medical insurance and much more. Teaching is so much more rewarding to me. I really feel like I make a difference in my students lives.
If you are thinking about becoming a teacher in a foreign country, I would definitely recommend it for the life experience and the rewarding feeling it brings. It is positive life-changing experience.
