Im a new JESIE teacher, but Im not new to teaching. As Im writing this, Ive been teaching English in China for 2 years, and working for JESIE for 4 months.
Everyone has different reasons, and expectations when it comes to working abroad. Mine is simple, I want to travel. I want to experience living in a different culture to my own, I want to see as much of the world as possible. So the reason I decided to move from my old school, to a JESIE school, was because of their work schedule. Im currently teaching 10 hours and 40 minutes a week. I have plenty of time to prepare my lessons and experience living in China. The holiday time is fantastic, so I also have great vacation time to travel to other countries. This really is a perfect combination of work life, and social life balance. I believe if you work hard, you deserve rewards. The rewards at JESIE are the holiday times, plus good salary.
I can only thank JESIE for putting me in an amazing school. We all have a Chinese liaison to help us adjust. My Liaison is fantastic and helps me with any needs I may have. When you have people like my liaison around you, adjusting to life in China is very easy. This is essential for enjoying your life as a foreign teacher here in China, there are people around you that can help you adapt.
I like to think Im a positive person, and a very nice guy. So Ive had great relationships with all my employers. It is also possible that I have just been lucky with my employment history; I think this is also the case with JESIE. The one thing, in which I prefer JESIE to my previous jobs, is the work and social life balance. I have plenty of time to prepare and do my job well, and plenty of free time, too live and explore the world around me.
