Where do all the buses go and where are all the shops?
Warwick Midlane | Have you ever wondered about where the buses go and which is fastest or easiest? Are you a Taxi person who is running low on cash? Does the thought of spending 26 Yuan to get to the train station, seem ridiculous to you? Well, then this article is for you. Maybe youre applying for a job here in Wuxi or maybe youre here already. The vast majority of teachers end up living in the amazing Business Apartment complex in the New District. This guide will show which buses you need to take to get anywhere of great importance. Our bus stop is located right next to our complex in front of Papa Johns Pizza. With Papa Johns at your back, the way to your right I will refer to as airport direction and to your left I will call downtown. Bus price cost The price for a Wuxi bus is 2 but if you use a bus card then it is 1.20. If you connect to another bus within the hour the price for the second bus will be 1. There are a variety of map apps that work well here. So far I have found Apple Maps to be the most user-friendly. Travel Train station/ bus station The most efficient bus to get to the train/bus station would be the 35. It comes every 5-10mins. The journey is roughly 40mins depending on traffic. Airport -Wuxi Sunan Shuofang International Airport (www.wuxiairport.com) The 32 bus will take you to the airport. 12 stops +/- 1:45mins Shopping Auchan- is a bit out of the way but is one of the best supermarkets in Wuxis New District. The 35/41/756 will all get you there and back. Go across the road from the complex and head towards downtown. This should take you 15 minutes +/- Renhe Wuxi International Merchants City/ Tangnanzhao. This is one of those shopping malls where you ca buy literally anything, whether it be clothing, CCTV cameras or wedding gift bags. This place has it all. Its not very well organised but if youre willing to search you will find what youre looking for here. Metro- is much like the American COSTCO, everything is large and in bulk. Their selection of meats is great as well as its hard to find foreign goodies. Take the 41, three stops then get off and wait for the 769. NB this bus is not frequent. You will also have to sign up for a membership but its free and can be done through Wechat. This Metro is in Xishan District. (A passport number is required.) Next to Metro is Decathalon, IKEA and the huge LIVAT Shopping mall. So this is always a good place to visit. Decathalon (Xinan district) This is your best friend if youre looking for sports clothes or equipment. Take the 766 for 19 stops. Its just a few hundred metres around the corner to the right. Powerlong(Baolong) /Carrefour - You dont need a bus. Head out the complex turn left and left again. Walk down the side street that runs beside the complex, for about 200m until you get to a huge building that says Powerlong. Inside this shopping mall is Carrefour. It will have nearly everything you need to kit out your apartment. Tourism Lake Lihu (Li Park) The best bus would be the 103, it will take you all the way to Lake Lihu. Its 15 stops. On the approach you will see a large Ferris wheel. Shortly after, the bus will turn a sharp right as if to go away from the lake and Ferris wheel. This is your stop. Jump off and follow the crowds to the lake. Turtle Head Peninsula (Yuantouzhu) Turtle Head Peninsula is famous for its cherry blossoms in spring. Take the same route as you would get to Lake Lihu - 15 stops on the 103. At the stop where you get off for Lihu, cross the road and wait for the Number 1 bus. Six more stops will have you there. Huishan ancient Village Huishan is well worth a visit for those wishing to see an ancient village. First take the 35, two stops towards downtown. Hop off and wait for the 15. The 15 will take you all the way there. You will see the mountain top Pagoda as you approach. When almost the entire bus disembarks with tea flasks in hand then you know you are there. Nanchang canal walk Nanchang is a canal that runs through the heart of Wuxi. The street that runs adjacent is beautiful, especially at night. There are a ton of shops and boutiques, great restaurants, and pubs to be found here too. Both the 41 and 35 will you there. Keep an eye out on your right. The bus announcement will say Nanchang.
Nanchang temple market The temple market is great for some souvenir shopping or traditional snacks. The 51 bus would be your best bet. Its just 11 stops and youre there. If you are already at Nanchang Canal then just cross the road and walk a few hundred metres up the road.
