Happy Chinese Moon Festival
Do you like spending time with family? Do you like fireworks? Do you like moon cakes? Well, so do people in China. Such a special time of year is called the Mid Autumn Festival. This festival is held on the 15th day of the eighth month of the Han calendar. Since 2008, the Mid Autumn Festival has been an official public holiday. During this holiday, family and friends gather to spend time together and celebrate their "intangible cultural heritage," to pray, and for their own version of thanksgiving. Ever since the Sheng Dynasty (16th to 10th century BCE), people have been congregating at this time to celebrate.
Needless to say, the Moon Festival would be incomplete without fun activities for people to do. Some activities that Mainland China has are Lanterns, moon cakes, and various games and activities. One of these to note is the delicious moon cakes that are only served during this holiday. Lanterns are also very popular. On a star lit night, you can see thousands of lanterns lifted off in the sky, which today symbolizes the festival itself.
Whether you're coming to visit or already live in China, the mid Autumn Festival is definitely worth seeing with family or friends!
