2015.09.16 - Purple Mountain Excursion
Thursday 10th September 2015 was Teacher's Day, in which Chinese students traditionally honour their teachers with presents. This year JESIE organised a special excursion for the teaching staff and 180 students!.. to hike up to the top of the Purple Mountain in Nanjing. It was a long walk, but was worth it for the spectacular view from the top!
This was followed by a barbeque that went on for most of the afternoon, before moving on to the Nanjing Museum.
All in all, a very fun and satisfactory day out!
Australian Exchange Programme
Dumpling-making activity
On Sunday 13th September 2015, a contingent of students arrived, with their teachers, from Australia to participate in JESIE's student exchange programme. As part of their orientation, they were welcomed with a dumpling and spring-roll making activity. Dumplings are a Chinese speciality in which a mixture of meat and herbs are combined and sealed inside a delicate filo casing before being boiled. After a demonstration by our resident chef, it was the student's turn to have a go at making their own dumplings and sping-rolls. After which, of course, everyone got to enjoy eating the fruits of their labours! This was followed by a party for the new arrivals to welcome them to JESIE and get their Chinese experience off to a good start!
