Jiangsu has achieved remarkable progress in preschool education in recent years, but some problems still exist, said Ge Daokai, director-general of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, during a meeting on Dec 28, 2017.
He also spoke highly of Jiangsu’s preschool education scale. As of 2016, the 6,867 kindergartens in Jiangsu had included over 2.57 million children and strived to offer them better and more targeted education.
Ge mentioned that, in the face of Jiangsu residents’ demand growing from “getting educated” to “getting well educated”, new problems and difficulties started to emerge, such as the unfair distribution of education resources, the training and retaining of school teachers, and the balance between higher tuition fees and quality education.
He proposed Jiangsu kindergartens and related government departments to join hands and face the rising challenges.
“On one hand we should continue to expand Jiangsu’s preschool education scale and offer children more education opportunities, while on the other we set our sights on deepening the ‘connotation’ of Jiangsu education and making it more customized for future generations,” Ge said.
